Aerospace Maritime and Defence (AMD) Conference 2020

Event Overview

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the expected discouragement of large gatherings for the foreseeable future, the cancellation of many existing defense industry platforms has become a reality. Fellow sponsors and delegates alike agree that a year without the Aerospace, Maritime and Defence Conference (AMD) is just not conceivable

With the opportunities that today’s digital technologies offer, taking this event online not only supplements the engagement lost from in-person events, but enables AMD to accelerate its content and gain an even bigger footprint internationally and on the continent.

In fact, transforming AMD to a world-class digital expo creates an opportunity to reach new audiences and business markets than ever before.

The objectives of the two-day conference remain the same:

  • To increase South Africa’s defence manufacturing capabilities by developing opportunities with Global OEM’s
  • To unlock the African defence industry’s unique opportunities to enable maximum potential growth.

Event Objectives

The objectives of the two-day conference remain the same:

  • To increase South Africa’s defence manufacturing capabilities by developing opportunities with Global OEM’s
  • To unlock the African defence industry’s unique opportunities to enable maximum potential growth.
  • To function as a catalyst for business investment.
  • To drive industry though leadership, deepen our collective understanding of the challenges within the sector and the opportunities that can be unlocked.
  • To create a knowledge sharing platform to address the issue of skills shortage in the sector.

Conference Highlights

Over the last 6 years, the AMD conference has hosted the likes of Secretary of Defence and Military Veterans Dr Sam Gulube, representatives from the UN, DTI and CSIR, South African economist Dr Roelof Botha, and top industry leaders from organisations such as Armscor, Denel, Milkor, Paramount Group, Hensoldt, Reutech and others.

2020 promises to be even bigger and better. AMD will bring global industry players together via an online platform, providing world class content, insight and business growth opportunities for the SA Defence industry.

2020 VIRTUAL CONFERENCE

The two-day virtual expo will consist of an introductory seminar, followed by a series of workshops and plenary sessions providing analysis and insight about a myriad of industry related topics.

The AMD online event platform allows us to create a full-scale digital set and stage in which speakers from anywhere in the world can be streamed in.

To give delegates the experience of being at an actual event, all speakers will be streamed in remotely from their various destinations and present from the same virtual stage.

Speakers will present “in front” of a large screen where their presentations will be displayed – exactly how it would beat a physical event.

The platform easily allows for breakaway sessions, virtual networking, exhibition, live polling and voting, as well as interaction/chats with speakers, facilitators and other delegates.

Networking

  • Interaction via live chat, the audience can post public comments or branch off into private chats with particular attendees they share an interest with.

Live Q&A

  • Key in audience experience, a moderator will queue audience questions for a presenter to answer at the end of their talk. Other audience members can ‘upvote’ one another’s questions so presenters can give attention to the ‘burning issues’.

Audience streaming

  • Audience members can also be “called onto stage” via the streaming capability for them to ask their questions in “person”

Live polls, quiz’s, giveaways and call-to-actions…

Social media sharing

Exhibition

  • A virtual expo can be supported, allowing delegates to visit stalls and spark conversations with the exhibitors
